The Nash County church held its Easter Sunday service only a few days after experiencing an act of vandalism.

Floods Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Spring Hope has a long-standing tradition of opening its doors for service for over a century. Easter Sunday was no different. Commenting on the days leading up to service, Pastor Richie Hogg said they were emotional. The church experienced a break-in on Good Friday with several windows broken, glass scattered throughout the aisles, and their cross taken down. However, the response from church members, pastors, and organizations wanting to help was overwhelming. While reflecting on what happened during Sunday service, the pastor said that the windows and walls have sentimental value but are replaceable materials. It meant even more to him to see families express forgiveness and to watch the community come together. The Spring Hope community sees the church as a home, and they stand by each other in times of need. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jordan Smith of Whitakers, and they are still unsure of the motive. Smith is expected to appear in court on April 10.
