The introduction of the Hailey Brooks Parade Safety Act may enhance safety protocols throughout North Carolina.

Lawmakers in North Carolina have introduced a bill aimed at improving the safety of parades in the state. The move comes in response to the tragic death of 11-year-old Hailey Brooks during the Raleigh Christmas Parade in 2022, when a truck pulling a float lost control. The bill is named after Hailey and is called the “Shine Like Hailey Parade Safety Act”. Under the proposed legislation, communities with populations of over 35,000 would be required to establish specific rules for parades. The rules include a minimum age of 25 for drivers, proof of vehicle safety history, and a valid license and registration. A full copy of the bill can be viewed via a provided link.
