The temperature of the Earth’s ocean surface has reached an unprecedented high level.

The world’s ocean surface temperature has hit a historic high, according to data from the US government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa). Climate experts warn that this could lead to more marine heatwaves, resulting in extreme weather conditions worldwide. Noaa data reveals that since the beginning of April, the average temperature at the ocean’s surface reached 21.1C – surpassing the previous record of 21C set in 2016.
