A 6-month-old child was abducted and missing for almost four hours, as reported by Durham police. The incident happened early Thursday morning at an apartment complex on Courtney Creek Boulevard. The suspect, a 16-year-old girl, brandished a knife and stole the baby. Jose Cobos, the child’s father, claimed his daughter sat in the hands of a stranger for that entire duration. Alexandra Garay, the mother, recounted the suspect grabbed the baby’s chair, threatening Garay with the knife. Garay let go of the chair and ran to ask for help. Witnesses saw officers recovering the baby from the suspect’s apartment in the building next door. The suspect was yelling, “they told me to do it” as she was taken into custody. The area was investigated by the forensics unit, but there is yet no word on possible motivation. CBS 17 spoke with the parents of the child using a translator.
